Definitions

IUCN Red List categories (IUCN, 2007) [full definitions from IUCN]
LC 'Least Concern' - Does not qualify for Critically Endangered, Endangered, Vulnerable or Near Threatened. Widespread and abundant taxa are included in this category.
NT 'Near Threatened' - Does not qualify for Critically Endangered, Endangered or Vulnerable now, but is close to qualifying for or is likely to qualify for a threatened category in the near future.
VU 'Vulnerable' - best available evidence indicates that it meets any of the IUCN criteria for Vulnerable, and it is therefore considered to be facing a high risk of extinction in the wild.

CITES Appendices (CITES, 2008) [full definitions from CITES]
App II Appendix II - Species that are not necessarily now threatened with extinction but that may become so unless trade is closely controlled.

CMS Appendices (CMS, 2008) [full definitions from CMS]
App I Appendix I - Migratory species that have been categorized as being in danger of extinction throughout all or a significant proportion of their range.
App II Appendix II - Migratory species that have an unfavourable conservation status or would benefit significantly from international co-operation organised by tailored agreements.

AEWA Table 1 Columns (AEWA, 2008) [full definitions from AEWA]
Col A Column A - Species or populations meeting one of the following categories: (1) included in CMS App I, listed as Threatened in Threatened Birds of the World (BirdLife, 2000), or population of less than 10,000; (2) population between 10,000 and 25,000; or (3) population of between 25,000 and 100,000 and considered at risk due to concentration at small number of sites, dependence on habitat type in decline, significant long-term decline or extreme fluctuations in population size or trend.
Col B Column B - Species or populations meeting one of the following categories: (1) population of between 25,000 and 100,000; or (2) population of over 100,000 and considered to need special attention due to concentration at small number of sites, dependence on habitat type in decline, significant long-term decline or extreme fluctuations in population size or trend.
